PSPA, FIA, UCC and the Uganda Bankers' Association establish a joint body to prevent and respond to financial fraud.

The Financial Sector Anti-Fraud Consortium has been launched, established by the Financial Intelligence Authority, the Uganda Communications Commission, the Uganda Bankers' Association and the Payment Services Providers Association. It is chaired by Dr Tumubweinee Twinemanzi, the Bank of Uganda's Executive Director, National Payment Systems.

The consortium brings together regulators, supervised financial institutions, payment providers, law enforcement and the public to anticipate, detect, prevent and respond to financial fraud.

What comes next

Over the coming months the consortium will set up a Fraud Incident Reporting Portal hosted at the Financial Intelligence Authority, run public awareness campaigns, train police, prosecutors and judicial officers, and advocate for legal reform.
